Unica: Dusseldorp BMW dashboard

Interaction design

Measuring solar panels efficiency in BMW iX3 rides. A non-interactive dashboard tailor-made for Dusseldorp BMW showroom.

Intelligent built environment powered by Unica Innovation Center means we:

  • gather data from sensors (meters, human feedback, weather data, DBs, etc) in built environment (buildings, parkings, bins, benches, whatever),
  • analyze it with united force of AI and human experts,
  • gathers insights and
  • create various products
which help building managers (owners, occupants, visitors) make the facility more efficient, sustainable and comfortable.

Task: make a solar panels dashboard for Dusseldorp BMW showroom. So, there are solar panels on the top of the building, and Dusseldorp BMW wants its customers to know that they're not just selling sustainable cars, but make some use of green energy themselves. Unlike in the majority of our projects the audience here is not a professional (building manager, engineer) but general public. Our standard 'production vs consumption in kWh' plot is unlikely to entertain prospective BMW owners or distract them from waiting. And how much is a kilowatt per hour anyways, right? We abandoned all 'serious' units and measure energy generated by solar panels in road trips: how far a BMW iX3 electric car can go using the produced energy.

Display: slideshow on a non-interactive wall-mounted display in the showroom. First screen (dashboard) is displayed for 15-30 seconds, other screens - for 5-6 seconds.
